This Saturday, October 26, the USC participated in an activity organized by the Asociación Forestal de Galicia called “Forestry of hardwoods for the production of high-value wood” in the leafy plots of the new green lung of Lugo in As Gándaras, area promoted by the Government of Lara Méndez with LIFE Lugo + Biodinámico where the University is investigating the potential of wood production as a renewable, recyclable, carbon neutral, high energy efficiency and high quality product for different industrial transformations.

This activity had two parts: on the one hand of a training session that was held at the Centro Cultural o Vello Cárcere on Friday 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and later counted with a practical workshop to carry out practices of pruning in the bush on hardwood species for the production of high-value wood, within the framework of a training program that extends and develops throughout Galicia, with the financing of the Xunta and the Agencia XERA of the Forest Industry.

Participants have been accompanied the Councilor for Sustainable Urban Planning, Miguel Couto, who argued that “the choice of this location has not been random, since this plot not only has a forest of native hardwoods of 4 hectares for the production of wood of quality but in it you can find more demonstrative species of crops for the construction of sustainable cities of the future using wood as a structural element”. In addition, the Councilor has been grateful that the AFG develops its training activities in the LIFE project plantations for the “importance it has in the forestry sector”.
