Continuing with the cycle of visits to the Impulso Verde building, this Tuesday, June 14 the students of the Carpentry and Furniture cycle of the IES from Ortigueira were able to tour the facilities through a guided tour with which they learned in detail the special characteristics of this building.

The interest that arouses in this building among the students and teachers of the different training cycles related to construction and woodworking is due to the innovative use of wood as a structural element, as well as its commitment to sustainability and energy consumption almost zero, reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 90% compared to similar concrete and steel constructions.

Impulso Verde is the first public construction in Galicia made of local wood and is also the first building in Spain and one of the few in the world in obtain FSC project certification, a prestigious guarantee that confirms that this construction does not contribute to deforestation and is committed to local products. In this way, this pioneering building becomes a reference in the fight against climate change, capable of generating its own consumption with alternative energies.

Once the visit was over, the students and teachers of the Ortigueira Secondary School were able know first-hand the urban forest and the rest of the actions that are being developed in the area by the LIFE Lugo + Biodinámico.
